René Langel left us last Tuesday. He was 97 years old. A long-time companion of the Swiss section of SCIJ, he was known and recognized by his fine moustache like Clarke Gable. He played the saxophone as well as he skied. With elegance.

Together with Géo Voumard and Claude Nobs, he was the third founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Our thoughts are with his wife Claude and his little dog, who must feel very lonely in their house in Boussens.

René has joined Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane and Sidney Bechet, of whom he’s now joined the galaxy of great saxophone players.
